Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Review
Anyone who follows me on Instagram knows that my Ambient Lighting Palette and I have been dating for quite some time now. She hasn’t let me down yet. Everyone in Aus is freaking out because it’s finally available on the Mecca Cosmetica website, but I got mine off of net-a-porter like three weeks ago (hehe suckers), so I’ve had a lot of time to decide whether or not this lovely little palette is worth the hefty $117 (I KNOW, I’m TERRIBLE) price tag.
I’ll give you the lowdown on what’s inside: First is dim light, a finishing powder, next is the new strobe powder called Iridescent strobe light, used for highlighting obvi. Then comes diffused light, a yellow toned powder, perfect for setting the under eyes and concealer. The two blushes inside are mood exposure, a warm plum shade (my fave) that looks kinda scary in the pan but gives a gorgeous, natural flush, and luminous flush, a brightening pinky-gold. Finally, you get luminous bronze light, which is just like what it sounds– a glowy-ass bronzer.
We already know these powders are amazing. But just in case you were wondering, THEY ARE. When I use these all together (aka pretty much every day), I can’t stop staring at myself all the live long day because I actually look like a glowing angel. Full credit to the powders, tho, defs not my face.
The verdict? I think this thing is totally worth the money, and if you’ve never tried any Hourglass products like me, GET IT. I’ve been wanting to try the Hourglass powders for years, but I couldn’t justify paying fifty something bucks for a blush. BUT. When I get to try six things…that I can justify. And now I know what I actually want to invest in if I ever go the full-sized route. I know, it’s ‘tiny’ and it’s called a ripoff by many, but I disagree.
First of all, it’s a POWDER, y’all. I honestly don’t remember the last time I finished a powder product. I don’t need much product to get the effect i want, so I fully expect to be using this for at least a year. Not too bad for a bullshit ripoff, huh?
Secondly, everyone keeps whinging about how tiny it is, but it’s marketed as ‘the ultimate portable luxury’ on Hourglass’s website, and that is absolutely what it is. One of the best things about this palette is how tiny it is! It’s perfect for travel, especially since it means you won’t be needing to lug around powders, highlight, blushes, bronzer. Now all of that shit fits right in your hand. Plus, if the powders were full sized, the thing would probably be the size of a laptop and would look fully ridiculous.
AND, y’all, I can do a pretty much a full face look with this palette in under ten minutes. It’s all I’ve been using since I got it and having everything together makes it so easy! I use the bronze and mood exposure as eyeshadow, so the only other bits I need to make myself human are foundation, concealer, mascara, and brow gel. So. Easy.
So, if you’re still debating whether or not to buy this, ask yourself– do I like convenience? Do I like lighter luggage? Do I like looking like a GLOWING ANGEL GODDESS?
I think you do.
